Red Dot On Glock - When the Leupold DeltaPoint Micro was announced, I was intrigued. To some, it seemed like an answer to a question that was never asked. But I think these people have not asked the right question. The Glock DeltaPoint micro build addresses some interesting issues that we will explore.
We had the opportunity to photograph a small bird in a Texas refugio. TFBTV star James Reeves took the opportunity to torture his Leipold Deltapoint Micro specimen. He installed it on his Glock 19X and flew it from a helicopter, empty of course. Then he picked it up again and fired a test shot. To no one's surprise the Glock worked well, and the Glock DeltaPoint Micro locked it down and kept the zero.

That's pretty impressive, but I had other plans for the Leupold Glock DeltaPoint Micro. This seems like the perfect solution for Glocks that cannot be attached to a red dot slide. Either you can't mill the slide or you don't want to bother milling the slide. Most of the red dots that stick to unmilled glass are not a very good solution. They attach either to the dovetail of the rear guide or to the frame. The only frame-mounted optic I like is the ALG six second mount.

So there was a specific model of Glock that I wanted to add a red dot to. However, when it came out it was not possible to mount it on the slider. Glock 44 chambered in .22LR. At the 2020 Shot Show, Glock gave us some Glock 44 pistols, and I brought my ALG six second mount with me to try them out. As you can see in the photos above and below, it works and works well. With a lightweight recoil slide and frame weight, this is a neat little competition rig.
However, holsters for Glocks equipped with ALG six second mounts are not common. I use a SureFire MasterFire holster, which is similar to a competitor's holster. But now we have an alternative red dot on the Glock 44. Leupold Glock Deltapoint Micro.
Installation is relatively easy. Remove the factory rear sight and insert this threaded rod. It is slightly loose for easy installation without the use of sight tools. Once the handlebar is in place, you screw the Leupold Glock DeltaPoint Micro onto it.
You can drift the Glock DeltaPoint Micro left and right, and once you've set it, just tighten the two screws.

To reset the red dot, the elevation and windage adjustments are located on the left side of the Glock Deltapoint Micro case.
The battery compartment is located under the optics. See the rubber round switch? Press up to activate the Glock DeltaPoint Micro. It has eight brightness settings. The lowest power level is night vision compatible.
The micro has two circular recesses on the back of the case. You can use them to align your front sight and use them as sights.
It's not pretty but it works, I used a felt tip pen to add the white dots on the back. I don't plan on using the sights, but if I had to use them it would give a bit more contrast.

The Glock DeltaPoint Micro is not just a training Glock .22LR. The micro has a low profile and works really well for Glock's micro compact series such as the Glock 43.
I have an original Glock 17L slide, and while it would be nice to have the slide milled into a red dot, I think it would be a waste for this exceptional Glock. So the micro works fine and it's not a permanent change.
It wasn't until I fired my Glock 44 that I thought about how clean it stayed. .22LR is not clean-burning ammunition. As I'm sure many of you have probably experienced with a .22LR pistol, a lot of debris is ejected out the rear of the ejection port.
This glass-mounted red dot, pictured below, is very easily covered in debris because it is located near the exhaust path through the ejection port. It's worse with .22LR pistols, which are much dirtier than centerfire pistols. This setup gets covered very quickly and requires frequent cleaning.

This is not the case with the Glock DeltaPoint Micro in the Glock 44 because the lens window is farther back on the slide.
At $399, the Glock DeltaPoint Micro isn't the cheapest red dot on the market, but it's sturdy and low-profile. It is fully enclosed so there is no way for debris to block the emitter. If the small window lens is covered, it is easy to clean. Shooting with the Glock DeltaPoint Micro is fairly easy because you don't have to hunt to find the dot like regular optics on a handgun. The micro works like a rear sight so you can only show the front sight and have a general presentation like iron sights.
Although the aesthetics may seem strange, everything is functional. The battery hangs from the back of the Glock slide and you can use this on any non-MOS factory Glock slide, except for the FFL with the Glock Post template with a fully automatic backplate. This makes the DP micro rather slim and offers the shooter a relatively unobstructed view.
One of my biggest concerns was whether this would work with the Glock 44. James mentions this in his TFBTV video about the Glock 44. At the 17th minute of the video, he mentions that Glock wasn't sure if a slide mounted dot would make an impact. Reliability is ok, I used CCI Clean and it worked great. Last round I had a few rounds, but that could be due to the ammo and I'm sure the weight of the DP Micro doesn't help. Other than that minor hiccup, I've never had any problems cycling.

DeltaPoint Micro's Full Brightness has a unique feature that projects a tiny laser-like dot on the back. It can be easily seen with night vision goggles.
